Clerk announces Nov. 4 election schedule and Sept. 24 ordinance workshop; Airbnb tax collection noted

The city clerk briefed the commission on election logistics, an upcoming ordinance workshop and short‑term rental tax collection.
"This year [the election] will be on Tuesday, November 4, from 7AM to 7PM," the clerk said, explaining absentee and early voting windows beginning Oct. 7 and the last day for early voting on Nov. 1. The clerk noted Tier C’s two open seats and explained that, for at‑large contests, the top two vote‑getters win the seats.
The clerk also announced an ordinance workshop scheduled for Sept. 24 (after the regular meeting) to allow public comment on proposed ordinance changes and to determine whether the commission is ready to schedule a public hearing and final adoption in October or to extend deliberation into later months.
On short‑term rentals, the clerk said Airbnb currently remits the city's 5% tax but not a separate 1% local surcharge; the city is working to obtain better address data from platforms so the city can track and inspect rentals and collect any additional local fees.
The clerk stood for questions and said newly elected officials would be sworn in at the first meeting in January and provided orientation materials for them.
No motions on these items were taken at the meeting; the clerk will return with ordinance materials on Sept. 24 for public input and possible scheduling of a hearing.
