Harrisburg City Council on April 14 approved a resolution authorizing the city to submit a Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2) grant application with the Capital Area Greenbelt Association (CAGA) for up to $100,000 to acquire property to relocate a portion of the Capital Area Greenbelt in South Harrisburg.
Chair Rawls said the proposal targets phase 2 of the Greenbelt relocation and would support development of a ramp structure to restore continuous, accessible trail connectivity; the acquisition would include roughly 1.3 acres and a 0.4-acre right of way from Penn C Supply Inc. The C2P2 program requires a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000; Rawls said CAGA intends to pursue a $75,000 Dolphin County gaming grant and that CAGA would secure the required match. Council asked no questions and the resolution passed 7–0.
Earlier in the meeting, Tri County Community Action’s Molly Lindquist, newly serving as director of community development, invited the council and residents to the organization’s fourteenth annual Great Harrisburg Litter Cleanup on Saturday, April 25, 8–11 a.m. Lindquist said last year more than 400 volunteers collected about 6.4 tons of trash across Allison Hill, Midtown and Uptown and encouraged volunteers and groups to register on the group’s events page.
