Romeoville trustees approve fireworks, Winter Wonderland rentals and adopt Black History Month proclamation

The Village of Romeoville Board of Trustees on Feb. 4 approved multiple consent-agenda items, including authorizing a fireworks display contract with Pyrotechnico Fireworks Inc. and an equipment rental agreement with JP Party Rentals LLC for the village’s Winter Wonderland celebration.

Mayor John Denoque read and the board adopted Proclamation 26 35 70 recognizing February 2026 as Black History Month and highlighted partnerships with the White Oak Library for related programming.

Parks staff told trustees the village tested viewing areas and recommends consolidating three smaller Independence Day shows into two much larger displays to improve sight lines and audience experience. “As part of this contract, we're actually recommending to go from 3 to 2, and you get just as good of a viewing area, you get a better fireworks show,” Kelly said, explaining that staff and department heads surveyed locations and ran test firings to ensure community coverage.

Kelly said the fireworks proposal covers two large July 3 displays at Village and Discovery Park plus the Friday-night Romeo Fest show at Village Park, and that village officials have used Pyrotechnico for multiple years because of its “displays, customer service, and adherence to safety regulations.”

The board also approved Resolution 26 41 56 to secure two iceless skating rinks and two trackless trains for the Winter Wonderland event planned for Dec. 4–5, 2026, with staff noting strong attendance at last year’s event and a desire to reserve equipment early.

The consent agenda vote—which bundled minutes, schedules, an ordinance amending chapter 37 of the village court personnel manual (Ordinance 26 20 35), a resolution awarding professional services to Robinson Engineering for Village Park Field No. 2 (Resolution 26 41 57), and the two event contracts—carried on roll call.

In other business, the clerk reminded trustees about the Valley View Educational Enrichment Foundation dinner and raffle on March 6 at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, staff previewed a spring permit day (April 14, 4–6 p.m.) to help residents with home-improvement permit questions, and trustees reported on local businesses and community events including a new indoor playground called Kidventure World and the Romeoville Athletic Center’s upcoming programs. Trustee Tricia Gary announced the Conservation & Sustainability Committee’s Bluebell Festival on May 2, 2026, in partnership with the Will County Forest Preserve and guided tours of O'Hara Woods.

The board adjourned at the close of the brief meeting.
