A representative of the Little Falls Lions told the Little Falls City Council that the organization has donated roughly $56,000 in improvements to Lions Park and reviewed the group's past and pledged financial support for the city's golf course.
Lochner, introduced by the council president as the Lions' representative and who said he is the club's president this year, told the council the Lions purchased the park land from the Franciscan Sisters before the bypass was constructed and gave the land to the city in 2022. "We as Alliance Group are going to donate about $56,000 worth of improvements that we've made at the park," he said, naming work that included air conditioning, a new furnace, boxed soffits and other outdoor improvements.
Why it matters: The improvements, the Lions' representative said, are already in place and maintained by the club; revenues from shelter rentals are placed in a separate fund that the group uses for park needs. Lochner said the club recorded more than 40 shelter rentals last summer and has ordered additional picnic tables and new, secured garbage cans to address maintenance issues.
Lochner also described earlier and planned financial support for the city's golf course, stating the club "gave you $50,000 the first year, we gave you $10,000," and that "we owe you $30,000, $40,000 more." The council did not provide a separate accounting during the presentation; these figures were reported by the Lions' representative during his remarks.
Council response and next steps: The council president thanked the speaker and praised the improvements but the council did not take a formal vote or acceptance of the donation on the record in this segment. The presentation was listed as an informational "council information only" item on the agenda; any formal acceptance or related ordinance would appear on a future agenda if the council chooses to act.
Additional context: The speaker said the Lions previously entered an agreement with the city (citing 2022) under which the club receives some funding for operations and undertakes maintenance, including bathroom cleaning and handling reservations. The Lions' representative framed the improvements as assets the group is turning over to the city because "it's your park now."
