Water and Light commission approves $2,800 isolator-switch maintenance at industrial park substation

The East Grand Forks City Water and Light Commission on Feb. 4 authorized a maintenance contract with the Western Area Power Administration to install an isolator switch at the industrial park substation at an estimated cost of $2,800.
Todd, the department head presenting the item, described the work as routine maintenance to be performed while the substation is shut down and said the city will sign the existing contractor agreement to have WAPA complete the installation. "Cost is, like 2,800 for those guys to perform the work when we have the subs shut down," Todd said.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the contract; the chair called the roll and the motion passed with three affirmative votes. The commission noted the work is part of standard substation upkeep and that the work timing depends on scheduled outages.
The commission also heard Todd say staff will continue clarifying language in the electric rules and regulations and reported the generator block-heater replacement and inventory-audit follow-ups are complete or underway. No additional conditions or amendments were attached to the isolator-switch approval.
The commission expects staff to present the signed contract to the chair for signature and to report back on scheduling once WAPA confirms outage timing.
