The University of Maine System Academic and Student Affairs Committee voted to forward faculty tenure recommendations from the universities to the UMS Board of Trustees for consideration at the board’s March 16, 2026 meeting.
The Chair read the proposed resolution on returning to public session, saying in part, “That the academic and student affairs committee approves the following resolution to be forward to the board of trustees approval at the 03/16/2026 board meeting, that the board of trustees accepts the recommendation for tenure submitted by the universities of the University of Maine system.” The Chair also stated the effective dates: approvals for faculty with academic-year appointments would take effect Sept. 1, 2026, and for faculty with fiscal-year appointments would take effect July 1, 2026.
Trustee Kane moved to approve the resolution, and Trustee Riley seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll; Trustees McMahon, Riley, Alexander, Kane, Kemmler and Martin each recorded “Yes,” and the Chair announced that the motion carried.
The committee’s vote formally forwards the listed tenure recommendations to the full Board of Trustees for action at the March meeting. No debate or amendments to the resolution were recorded in the public session. The Chair thanked participants for their work on the tenure process and adjourned the meeting.
The Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider the committee’s recommendations at its March 16, 2026 meeting; if approved there, the committee-recorded effective dates would apply to the newly tenured faculty.
