Lodi student Caden Rafe wins regional spelling championship, advances to state

The Lodi School District honored student Caden Rafe Tuesday for winning the regional spelling bee in Portage and qualifying for the state competition in Madison. Board members presented Caden with the Taking Positive Steps for Service award, a certificate and a $100 prize.
Board member Derek, presenting the award, said Caden first won the Lodi spelling championship, went on to win at the regional level and “advanced into the state competition in Madison,” a milestone the board noted had not previously been reached by a Lodi student. Derek added, “Caden is a champion not only because of his victory, but because of his hard work, perseverance, and the way he represents our school and community.”
During the brief recognition, the student spelled the word “champion” aloud and the board invited photographers to mark the occasion. The district’s recognition also included volunteer awards to two booster‑club volunteers who were nominated for their work operating concession stands.
The presentation closed with school leaders thanking family, coaches and volunteers for their support. The district will follow Caden’s progress at the state level in Madison later this school year.
