Library Director Corey Burkel told the advisory board the renovation is nearly done (targeted for March), highlighted a new water bottle faucet and praised contractor Paragon; the Library Friends donated $35,000 for shelving and lighting, and staff showcased local history archives.
At the Newberg Library Advisory Board meeting, Library Director Corey Burkel reported that renovation work is close to finished and that the project remains on target for March completion.
Burkel described practical choices made during the remodel, saying the library selected vandal-resistant stalls and fixtures and installed a new water-fill faucet so patrons can refill bottles. "We've got our new water faucet, which I'm super excited about because you can fill your water bottle," Burkel said, noting the colder option cost an additional $5,000, which she declined. She praised the contractor: "The company, Paragon, that we're working with has been fantastic to work with."
Burkel also reviewed upcoming programming and funding: spring-break programs, a Wacky Wednesday event on April 1 and spirit-week activities. She told the board that the "Library Friends" donated $35,000 to support shelving, panels and lighting upgrades.
The director highlighted the library's local-history collection and archives, including digitized Newberg materials and Oregon reference holdings, and noted volunteers maintain scrapbooks and donor recognition projects. Burkel encouraged board members to visit the archives in person and said some items are reference-only while others circulate.
The meeting ended after routine updates on agenda posting and the student commissioner appointment process; the board adjourned at 06:41.
