Monona County board approves wage tweak, job posting and FY2027 equipment solicitations for Secondary Roads

The Monona County Board of Supervisors on March 17 approved personnel and procurement steps for the county’s Secondary Roads department.
Chairman Bo Fox moved to grant a ten-year wage increase for Randy Weidt, raising his pay from $27.45 to $27.50 per hour under the union contract; Supervisor Tom Brouillette seconded the motion and it passed with Supervisors Fox, Brouillette and Vince Phillips voting aye. The board also approved an internal posting for an Operator III position in the West Shop after a motion by Supervisor Vince Phillips, seconded by Brouillette; that motion passed unanimously.
The board authorized staff to solicit and accept quotes or bids for two pieces of equipment needed in FY2027: a motor grader and an excavator. Supervisor Fox moved to solicit bids for a motor grader, seconded by Supervisor Phillips; Supervisor Brouillette moved to solicit bids for an excavator, seconded by Supervisor Phillips. Both motions carried with all supervisors present voting in favor.
Separately, the board approved a miscellaneous utility permit for MidAmerican Energy to perform an underground secondary extension to service a new grain bin at 13373 County Highway L12 in Hornick. The permit authorizes boring approximately 100 feet under County Hwy L12 from an existing pole on the west side to a new service on the east side; the motion was moved by Supervisor Brouillette, seconded by Supervisor Fox, and carried unanimously.
Board members discussed budget issues, premium pay for an acting foreman and road conditions but took no formal action on those items during the meeting.
The equipment solicitations and personnel actions are preparatory steps toward FY2027 operations and procurement; the board did not adopt final contracts at this meeting.
