At the April 14 meeting, the Franklin Township Council presented a commendation honoring the Somerset Hills Lions Club for charitable service and announced the club’s $3,000 donation to the Franklin Food Bank.
Rohit Gupta, speaking for the Lions Club, described the club’s global history and service programs — from vision‑care projects to disaster relief — and said the local Lions chose a direct monetary gift to the food bank because it would maximize local impact. “We are part of an international club… and we continue to support as much as we can in every sense we can,” Gupta said.
A Franklin Food Bank representative thanked the Lions Club for the gift, described hosting tours for club members, and said the organization looks forward to a continued partnership to support residents facing food insecurity.
The council read a formal commendation noting the club’s “extraordinary generosity and public spirit” and committed to presenting the donation at a future event.
