Oscoda County board approves youth liaison hire, extends temporary pay increases; hears public comment and Wellvance update

The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners approved several personnel actions June 24 and heard community and partner briefings.
Court Administrator Tom Pratt asked the board to advertise and hire a full-time Youth Liaison Officer as a contingent full-time non-union position working up to 35 hours per week, with a starting wage of $17.00'$18.00 per hour and eligibility for county benefits. The position was approved and will be fully funded through the Basic Grant; the motion amended reflected revenue and expense budget lines accordingly (motion 2025-189). The motion passed on a recorded roll call vote.
The board also approved amendments to extend temporary hourly pay increases for Ms. Elizabeth Reed (from $18.59 to $19.59) and Ms. Chelsea Butler (from $19.27 to $20.27), effective May 5 through July 21, 2025 (motions 2025-190 and 2025-191). Both motions carried by roll call.
In presentations and public comment, Wellvance CEO Diane Pelts introduced successor Trish Otremba and presented the organization's 2024 annual report; Pelts told the board, "Wellvance is a very community-oriented company and the collaborations with the County is very important to us." She asked the board to review a sample resolution and said any county contribution request would arrive in the fall by letter. Public commenters included Greg Sidebottom, who asked the board to consider a noise ordinance; Ray Schilling (AVNAF/Nor-East'r board) urged the board to allocate funds to the Oscoda County Fairgrounds and requested an appointment for Aug. 12 to present fundraiser proposals; and Sgt. Ryan Blair announced a July 1 blood drive at the sheriff's department conference room.
