Woodhaven-Brownstown board approves three-year contract to hire Matthew Salah as superintendent

The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District Board of Education voted to approve a three-year contract for Matthew Salah as the district's next superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.

The board approved the contract for the 2026–27 through 2028–29 school years after presenting a personnel recommendation that cited an extensive search beginning in December 2025. A board member moved the hire and identified Barry as the mover and Lowry as the supporter; the motion carried after the board signaled unanimous approval by voice vote.

The outgoing superintendent, speaking before the vote, said, “As the outgoing superintendent, I could not be prouder.” The board invited Matthew Salah to introduce family members who were in the audience and members gathered for a photo and offered congratulations.

Board materials presented at the meeting said trustees worked with a search consultant, engaged staff and the community, and spent evenings and weekends on recruitment and selection. No salary or contract compensation details were presented in the meeting record.

The board did not identify any dissent during the vote. The hiring motion was described on the record as a formal appointment; the board said it intends for the new superintendent to continue district progress on student achievement and operational priorities.

The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for May 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the board office.
