Johnstown-Monroe Local honors player of the year Caitlin Cox; recognizes two coaches

At a meeting of the Johnstown-Monroe Local board, a school staff member recognized sophomore Caitlin Cox for a string of basketball honors and acknowledged coaches Kyle Higgins and Scott Helmke for coach-of-the-year awards.
The presenter listed Cox’s accomplishments for the season, saying she was special mention All-State, District 11 player of the year, LCL player of the year, and was named first-team All-District and first-team all LCL. "She's a great, great, great student," the presenter said, noting Cox is expected to remain on the team for more than two seasons.
Cox addressed the board and public briefly, thanking family, teammates and coaches. "I couldn't do it without them," Caitlin Cox said.
Coach Kyle Higgins, introduced during the recognitions as the boys' head basketball coach, praised Cox’s work ethic. "She's the hardest-working athlete, boy or girl, I've ever been around," Coach Kyle Higgins said, adding that her competitiveness pushes the coaching staff.
Coach Scott Helmke, introduced as the girls' head basketball coach and similarly honored, thanked volunteers and administrators. "There's so many things that go into a basketball season," Coach Scott Helmke said, acknowledging parents and staff members named during the meeting.
Board members praised the coaches for developing student leaders as well as producing wins. One board member said the district hopes to ease scheduling and practice space constraints "once we get a building built for you," referencing planned facility improvements.
Speakers repeatedly thanked volunteers who manage logistics for practices and games, and coaches highlighted the contributions of specific administrators. The recognition segment concluded with mutual thanks and encouragement for the returning student-athlete and coaching staff.
