Tulsa board updates reading policy and removes outdated No Child Left Behind transfer policy

At its Dec. 8 meeting the Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education revised Policy 2406 to eliminate outdated references to the Reading Sufficiency Act and deleted Policy 2208 concerning No Child Left Behind transfer provisions. Both actions were presented as required for statutory compliance, the second reading requirement under Policy 1201 was waived, and the motions carried unanimously (each motion moved by Calvin Moniz and seconded by John Croisant; votes 7-0).
Board materials indicated the Policy 2406 update is required by Oklahoma state law and that the NCLB transfer policy is obsolete because the federal law is no longer in effect. The changes were characterized by staff as compliance updates rather than substantive new programmatic policy shifts.
Following the vote, board members did not request additional amendments; the updated Policy 2406 and deletion of Policy 2208 will be reflected in the district's policy manual and posted per normal administrative procedures.
The board waived the typical second-reading requirement to enact both changes at the Dec. 8 meeting.
