Student and parent callers urge action on tardiness and cold-weather drop-off

Camden, a ninth-grade student at Stillwater Junior High, told the board that students are missing class time because of tardiness and offered several suggestions: more hall monitors and supervision, additional cameras, or incentives such as rewards to encourage on-time attendance. "I believe that if they get on time, it would benefit the teachers to start class earlier and get students through their work," Camden said.
Joel Meece, a parent, thanked the superintendent for prior conversations and raised cold-weather concerns at the junior high: he said doors do not open until 8:30 a.m. and noted children waiting outside for extended periods in cold conditions. Meece suggested the board consider parent advisory committees that could offer recommendations (not policy) on safety, drop-off and other school issues.
Board members thanked both speakers for raising the issues and said staff would take the comments under advisement for potential operational adjustments.
