The Stillwater Public Schools Board voted to approve technology contracts covering network, wireless, security and classroom systems for the new Stillwater High School funded by the 2023 bond.
The contracts, presented at the board meeting, cover a CAT-6A cabling backbone designed to support 10-gigabit endpoints and 90W Power over Ethernet, about 110 Ruckus wireless access points (one per classroom and additional coverage for common areas), 73 security cameras with edge analytics and visual-tracking capabilities, classroom intercom/clock/speaker units capable of emergency notification, and a Fortinet phone system with E911 compliance.
"We are standardizing around CAT-6A cable...our goal is the graduating class of 2051 be just as successful as the class of 2026," Brian Bloomer said, summarizing the design goals and capacity planning for the new building. Bloomer also described features intended to support safety and operations, including automated camera triggers for specified zones and QR-coded quick-start guides and vendor post-installation support for teacher training.
Board members asked whether the work was within the bond budget; staff said several allowances came in under budget and the contracts are covered by the previously approved bond allocation. "Yep. Under budget," a district representative said during the discussion.
The board adopted the contracts by roll-call vote. The district plans a heavy technology installation phase in spring and summer with equipment installation expected to begin around March2 April and a series of training and post-installation support hours from vendors to help teachers and staff use the new systems.
The vote followed a detailed operations presentation that highlighted classroom flexibility (wireless casting, multi-monitor options, document cameras), a 17-foot LED student-center video wall, new Mac and Chromebook lab configurations, and a phone system that will automatically populate caller location for 911 dispatchers.
What happens next: staff will finalize vendor schedules and begin procurement and staged installation per the bond timeline.
