Summary
Council members reported on local committees: the planning commission recommended the city accept the 2025 housing element progress report and submit it to the California Department of Housing; the Council of Governments voted to begin a 180-day withdrawal from the Calvans JPA citing financial problems. Multiple community events and ribbon cuttings were announced.
The Kingsburg City Council received routine committee updates and community announcements during its regular meeting.
Council member Palomar reported that the Planning Commission passed a resolution recommending the city accept the 2025 housing element progress report and submit the document to the California Department of Housing. "That should be coming to us next month in one of the meetings," Palomar said, noting the commission also heard a presentation on objective design standards for multifamily projects.
Mayor Pro Tempursson reported on regional transit and leadership changes at the Council of Governments (COG). He said Victor Martinez is the new COG chair and that COG voted unanimously to begin a 180-day withdrawal from the Calvans joint-powers agreement because of ongoing financial shortfalls and declining ridership. "It's a 180 day withdrawal process... at the end of the day, there's just not enough money to subsidize that program," Mayor Pro Tempursson said.
Council member North updated the council on local economic events: SKF met and approved a two-year contract for its general manager; the Chamber reported a profitable annual dinner; the upcoming car show had 224 vehicles registered so far and additional ribbon cuttings were scheduled later in the month. Council member Silva said the Kingsburg Health Care District approved grants to continue the city's senior lunch program and a morning breakfast program and approved a Humanae Day sponsorship.
No formal legislative actions were taken on these reports during the meeting; several items were described as informational or forthcoming to future agendas.
