Shiawassee County commissioners approve payrolls, personnel changes, grants and agreements

Shiawassee County commissioners on May 21 approved the bulk of the board’s consent and action items, including authorization of invoices and payroll, multiple personnel replacements, grant submission and intergovernmental agreements.
The board approved paying invoices and three payroll batches (including wires, ACH and EFTs) with warrants authorized for a grand total of $12,502,000.36; the motion carried unanimously.
Personnel actions approved included replacing one sheriff road patrol deputy (not to exceed Step 1), replacing one executive assistant for pretrial services at grade 4, replacing a juvenile caseworker at grade 7, filling a part-time (not to exceed 20 hours/week) probate guardian ad litem position, and filling an IT position for central dispatch at grade 12. The board also approved remonumentation peer review group members and remonumentation contracts as recommended by the County Surveyor, and approved committee minutes from May committee meetings.
The board approved submission of the FY2026 Community Corrections grant application (Resolution #25-05-06), listing the proposed funding amount in the minutes as $185,997.60. The County Administrator, Dr. Boggs, introduced Tyler Cesar, an intern working on Brownfield grants, said the county audit will be presented at June meetings and said bonds for Pleasant View are moving forward. The minutes also note a memo from Health Department Director Larry Johnson regarding funding cuts to the Health Department.
Other approved items included an Integration Agreement, Part I, with Michigan’s Public Safety Communication System, adoption of Materials Management Committee by-laws and the appointment of Jerry Haber to the Community Mental Health Board. The board approved the L-4029 form to set 2025 summer tax millage rates and authorized the chairman and clerk to execute it; specific millage rates were not included in the minutes.
