During discussion, district staff and board members emphasized priorities including repurposing existing facilities (weight and wrestling buildings) into Palm and Cheer and track and field spaces, improvements to locker rooms, expansion of storage and circulation, and options for artificial turf and lighting on a new practice field. A district speaker noted the project had grown from earlier estimates into a roughly $22.5 million effort but credited collaborative design, user‑group input and cost‑estimation work for keeping the package aligned with budget, reporting an estimate within approximately $40,000 of the district’s target and retaining a 5% contingency.
The board was briefed on timing: the goal is to advertise remaining bid packages in April and stagger early civil and site work to capture favorable market timing. Project managers said successful early demo and civil work should help keep the overall schedule on track and could allow some buildings or spaces to be completed earlier in the construction sequence.
The motion passed by roll call vote. The board did not take additional amendments at the meeting; staff said they would return with bid recommendations and contract awards as procurement progresses.
