Montgomery County Educational Foundation presents educator grants; board honors seniors of the month

Connie Froggatt, president of the Montgomery County Educational Foundation (MCEF), presented awards to educators and described multiple grant tracks: an emergent/field-trip 'bridal fund,' professional-development grants, MCEF direct donor funds, endowment/pass-through awards with the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, and sponsored grants from corporations and local donors.
Froggatt noted the program has awarded more than $418,000 to teachers, PTAs, PTOs and students since 2012. She named several award recipients and projects: funds for the MCPS corps of cadets to visit Norfolk Naval Station, Jamestown Museum fees for elementary trips, sensory learning tools for English-language learners, indoor STEM carts for recess in inclement weather, hands-on science kits, a mobile planetarium visit, class sets of lacrosse sticks, a chop-saw cardboard fabrication tool for elementary fabrication, chick incubators, biotechnology equipment for expanded AP biology courses, and equipment to refurbish courtyard gardens.
School administrators and principals joined to present honorees. Earlier in the meeting, the board also recognized December 'Senior of the Month' honorees from Auburn, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Eastern Montgomery High Schools and heard remarks about students’ achievements and post-graduation plans.
No action was required for these presentations; the board recessed afterward for photos and in-person congratulations.
