Crook County posts clean FY2025 audit and approves landfill financial assurance recertification

Christina Herron, Crook County finance director, told commissioners the county received a clean audit opinion for fiscal year 2025 and walked the board through March cash balances, reconciliations and an investment ladder that included a $1.5 million maturity reinvested on shorter terms.
"We received a clean audit opinion," Herron said, noting the auditors reported no significant deficiencies and highlighted forthcoming GASB rule changes that will affect future audits. She also described the county's practice of holding investments to maturity to manage risk.
Herron presented the annual financial-assurance update for the county landfill, saying the county meets the financial requirements for post-closure and that no 10% match is required for the grant in this cycle. Commissioners moved to approve the recertification; the motion was seconded and passed by recorded aye votes.
Next steps: Staff will process the landfill recertification documents and file the required letters as part of the county's financial records.
