WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital donates $60,000 to Borough and police; council notes K9 fundraising progress

Orie Chambers, President of WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, presented a donation to the Borough and the Ephrata Police Department during the council's March 9 meeting. Mayor Thomas Reinhold later stated the contribution is $60,000 and will be split evenly between the Borough and the police department. Police Chief McKim thanked WellSpan for the gift and its support of local safety initiatives.
Separately, Steve Aronson of the Friends of the Ephrata Police Foundation updated council members on progress toward a K9 unit and fundraising efforts. Joy Ashley of Mainspring of Ephrata provided public comment thanking the Borough for continued support and confirmed the Borough will be added to Mainspring’s sponsor list after a question from Vice President Victor Richard.
Council did not take a formal vote to accept the donation at the March 9 meeting as a discrete agenda motion is not recorded in the minutes; the donation and Mayor Reinhold’s remarks were recorded under announcements. The donation is designated for public-safety initiatives and the Borough will coordinate next steps with the police department and foundation partners.
