Edinburg touts parks upgrades, downtown projects and private investments creating jobs

Mayor Omar Ochoa highlighted a $6,200,000, three‑story downtown parking garage at McIntyre and Claesmere that will add 268 spaces to serve the courthouse and cultural district. He also named Plaza Ghislaine, a $22,600,000 mixed‑use development expected to create about 180 jobs, and noted a private $34,000,000 H‑E‑B remodel and other retail projects.
The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EDC) also announced a $650,000 downtown renovation to repurpose a historic 1925 building and an EDC workforce resource center at Ebony Hills Golf Course to connect residents with job opportunities. The mayor said Zoho Corporation plans to convert the Echo Hotel into an office campus, remodeling roughly 44,000 square feet in a project estimated to exceed $20,000,000 and initially bringing about 80 jobs.
The mayor added that a nearly $1.1 million, 10‑foot‑wide Freddy Gonzalez hike and bike trail will link local trail networks and connect to Vacker Stadium when complete. City materials and the digital annual report were cited for additional project details.
