At its May 21 meeting, the Beardstown City Council approved routine business items: it dispensed with reading and approved the May 7 minutes, filed the consent agenda, and accepted April financial reports and ambulance statistics for Beardstown and Virginia.
The council unanimously approved two park use requests for Art Zeeck Park: the Amigos Fiestas Patrias Unidos Committee’s Annual Fiestas Patrias Celebration for Sept. 15, 2024, and the Congolese Community of Central Illinois’ Day of Peace in the DRC event for July 6, 2024. Motions to approve those requests were moved by Alderpersons Mary Davis and Eric Harbin and passed by voice vote.
The council entered executive session at 7:11 p.m. under Exemption 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2) for collective bargaining; the body resumed at 8:16 p.m. After resuming, councilmembers discussed next steps on the zoning accessory-uses proposal and Alderperson Ron Culves set a committee meeting for May 28 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
