Board awards CID building contract to Piedmont Contracting, approves LRA grant and several county invoices

The Stephens County Board approved a set of capital and operating items on the consent agenda, including awarding the contract for a new Sheriff's CID building and accepting transportation grant funding.
On the CID building, staff presented three quotes: Piedmont Contracting ($878,814), Daddison Inc. ($882,420) and Laurel Glen Builders LLC ($997,325). The board voted to accept the low bid from Piedmont Contracting. The county’s present sheriff told the board the current CID facility is deteriorated and said a modern building would improve investigators’ ability to serve the public; describing the old building, the sheriff said it “probably needs to be burnt or bulldozed.”
The board also approved a FY26 Local Road Assistance (LRA) grant application and authorized the chairman to submit the application. Hamilton said the county is obligated to accept $645,034.77 in LRA funds; using those funds reduces the county’s SPLOST contribution for this year’s road list from $908,000 to about $263,000. Hamilton said the county previously received roughly $1,900,000 in LMIC funding over three years.
Other approved consent items included payment of Acre Oil fuel invoices (various amounts listed), payment to the Georgia Firefighters Pension Fund ($17,350), HVAC repair quotes for the animal shelter (JEN Comfort Solutions, $25,628.90), and a quote for cubicles from McGarity's Business Products ($11,596.09). The board approved each line item by voice vote.
