Lamar County Board of Education adopts resolution opposing school choice programs

The text states the board’s concern that vouchers, education savings accounts and tax-credit scholarship programs can channel public dollars to private providers that do not follow state academic standards or public-records laws, and that such programs “redirect critical public funds away from local public school districts.” The resolution urges the Lamar County legislative delegation, the Mississippi Legislature and the governor to oppose school choice measures and to invest in the state funding formula, teacher support and services that benefit public-school students.
Board members did not debate amendments; the vote followed discussion during the business portion of the meeting. The resolution record lists the board’s findings about funding, accountability and local impacts, and it was entered into the board minutes as passed and adopted Oct. 14, 2025.
