Two Butler Street residents asked the Town Council of the Town of Kingston on March 2, 2026, to consider installing a stop sign at the intersection of Rutter Avenue and Butler Street after multiple crashes at the corner.
Susan Motyka, who lives at 132 Butler Street, told council members that crossing the intersection is difficult at all times of the day and asked that Council “consider putting a stop sign” at the corner. Tod Howard, of 120 Butler Street, said there had been a car wreck at the intersection earlier in the week and recalled several prior collisions, including one that sent a car into a telephone pole. Howard added that the intersection is a school bus stop and said “slowing traffic down would be a benefit.”
Administrator Sondra Riviello told the speakers the administration and Council would take the request under advisement and that the Town would contact the town engineer to determine whether a traffic study is necessary before making any changes. No action was taken at the March 2 meeting; the request will be referred to the Town engineer for possible study and recommendation.
