"I'd encourage the school committee to go with the pre Labor Day start," one administrator said, adding that staff and the union had voted to support the change and that an MOU had been arranged for the contractual start date.
Committee members raised concerns about family impacts — including conflicts with college move‑in schedules — and requested clearer family outreach. One member urged waiting a year to avoid creating additional complications for parents with students in both college and school, while others emphasized the need to inform families promptly so they can plan.
The committee moved and seconded a motion to adopt option 1 as presented; the motion carried in open session. Administrators said they would post the finalized calendar, notify families, and coordinate any additional MOU work with the union and the construction team.
The vote followed a multi‑iteration staff process that produced four calendar drafts and included input from the professional development committee, teachers and staff; administrators said they would add student feedback in future cycles.
