Benton County supports student drawing contest and courthouse exhibit from Preservation Commission

The Benton County Board of Supervisors endorsed a spring outreach project from the county Historic Preservation Commission to run a student drawing contest for kindergarten through 12th grade tied to the U.S. 250th anniversary.
The preservation commission representative said the commission plans to distribute contest materials to schools by March 27 (or as scheduled), accept artwork through April 30, select winners by grade, display entries at the courthouse from June 17 to July 15 and offer guided courthouse tours for winners and their families. The commission asked supervisors to endorse the project, help distribute materials to principals or art teachers, participate in judging and allow the courthouse display.
Supervisors moved to allow the project to proceed, to permit display at the courthouse and to participate in judging and an award ceremony; the motion passed. The commission representative said exhibit entries would be anonymized for public display.
