Summary
Trustees recognized Temple ISD departments and students on April 13, honoring the purchasing and finance teams with statewide awards, celebrating communications and athletics honors, and acknowledging more than 60 fine-arts students who qualified for state solo and ensemble contests.
Trustees of the Temple Independent School District on April 13 recognized multiple district teams and dozens of students for statewide honors and achievements.
The district's purchasing department received the Texas Association of School Business Officials award of merit after submitting documentation in eight subject areas, officials said. Temple ISD was one of 84 educational organizations statewide to earn the award this year; staff members named in the presentation included Mark Floyd, Laura Ludlow, Todd Copeland and Samuel Santos.
The district's finance department received TASBO's 2026 Award of Excellence in financial management, the first time the district earned that particular award. Assistant Superintendent of Finance Brandy Stanford and members of the finance team were acknowledged for accounting, reporting and financial-compliance work.
Temple ISD's communications department won a record 14 Texas School Public Relations Association Star Awards for work produced during the 2024–25 school year, the board was told. The department took honors across video, photography and news-release categories; staff members John Wallin, Eric Larson and Amy Fry Brown were singled out.
Athletics and student recognition also featured on the agenda: the Temple High School athletic department received a Grant TAF 'Beyond the Game Team Award' including a $1,000 grant for community-service initiatives, and more than 60 choir, orchestra and band students were acknowledged for qualifying for the state solo and ensemble contest.
Board members closed the recognitions by inviting recipients to the front for photographs and thanking staff, parents and volunteers.
The board adjourned that portion of the meeting and moved on to other agenda items.
