Timberlane board reorganizes leadership; vice chair Mark Sherwood elected

At its March 19 reorganization meeting the Timberlane Regional School District board failed to pick a new chair after two tied nominations and instead elected Mark Sherwood as vice chair. The board also completed routine annual appointments and moved into regular business.
The Timberlane Regional School District board opened its reorganization meeting with roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance before addressing officer elections.
Two members were nominated for chair — Jack Sapien and Katie (as listed in roll call) — and both motions were seconded. After discussion in which members urged either change or continuity, each nominee received four votes and no majority was reached. The board did not make a final determination on chair during the reorganization segment.
The board then elected Mark Sherwood as vice chair. The motion to elect Sherwood passed after discussion of his committee experience and leadership style; the minutes record at least one abstention and one opposing vote (Mary Ann Springer abstained; Sean O'Neil recorded as opposed). With Sherwood seated, the board moved on to routine annual appointments.
Those appointments included nominations for district clerk, recording secretary, school treasurer and assistant treasurer; the board also approved bonding of the treasurer and assistant treasurer in accordance with RSA 197:22 and designated TD Bank as a district depository. These motions were presented as routine and carried where recorded.
The board set the tone for the year by approving its calendar for 2026–27 while acknowledging community feedback on deliberative session timing could prompt future adjustments. The meeting then proceeded to audits, presentations and regular business.
