Instruction committee recommends Savvas My Perspectives for grades 6–12 literacy

Dr. Hall described the secondary English/literacy textbook review process: 23 committee members, school-based sample reviews, open-house and virtual review opportunities, and compiled evaluation forms used to compare three VDOE‑approved series (HMH Into Literature, Savvas My Perspectives, and McGraw Hill StudySync).
Hall said the committee narrowed the field to HMH and Savvas after an initial review and then conducted a second vote; committee members favored Savvas for its flexible digital platform, novel options, and functionality such as standards-mastery assessments and an AI‑powered writing feedback tool. Hall noted HMH was the most expensive option and that McGraw Hill’s physical book quality drew some negative feedback from reviewers.
The committee moved and the Instruction Committee voted to forward the recommended Savvas My Perspectives series for grades 6–12 to the full board with a recommendation to approve.
