Dunn County approves $717,352 AXON public-safety technology package for sheriff’s office

The Dunn County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously April 1 to purchase an AXON public-safety technology package for the sheriff’s office totaling $717,352.60.
Sheriff Gary Kuhn introduced AXON representative Kevin Pirehpour, who described the package as including new body cameras, Tasers, in-car video systems, AI-assisted report writing and automated tagging and upload functionality. The vendor proposed financing the program in five annual payments of $143,255.31 beginning January 2027 and a pro-rated payment for the remainder of 2026; the presentation included a total discount of $262,339.40 compared with list pricing.
Commissioners said the system would improve officer safety, battery life and video retrieval and streamline the department’s workflow. After questions about costs and implementation, the board approved the purchase as presented.
The purchase will be funded from the sheriff’s equipment budget; the county will finalize contract and payment terms with AXON before the first scheduled installment in 2027. The board also approved donating a retired deputy-vehicle computer to Killdeer Area Ambulance during the same meeting.
