Summary
District staff described interventions aimed at improving ninth-grade on-track rates, detailed dual-credit pathways and invited trustees to senior-project presentations; a career fair and extracurricular successes were also highlighted.
Trustees heard a multi-part report on student programming, interventions and extracurricular successes during the meeting.
Staff summarized academic pathways for students, including three dual-credit options and expanded options that allow students to earn college credit through partners such as Chemeketa and local university agreements. "For the senior class we had the senior classes tallied a total of 44 college credits through the college in winter term," a presenter told trustees and invited board members to attend senior-project presentations scheduled in the first two weeks of May.
The board also received an update on the ninth-grade success team, which meets monthly and focuses on students considered at risk. The presenter reported that 73% of ninth graders were on track at the end of the first semester and described interventions: accepting late work without penalty, retakes on assessments, in-class time for assignments, biweekly monitoring spreadsheets and 5–10 minute goal-setting check-ins for yellow- and red-tier students. Staff projected a year-end on-track rate near 75% if interventions continue.
Trustees praised recent career-fair and extracurricular results: a National Honor Society career fair, competitive successes in vet science and horticulture contests, and a first-place jazz band finish in Seaside. Board members asked for more public reporting on fundraising totals so the community can see how donations are used.
What’s next
Staff will return with further data on special-education enrollments next month and continue scheduling senior-project presentations that board members are invited to attend.
