Committee adopts amendment to extend cancellation notice for standard fire policy to 60 days; bill reported with amendments

Senator Bass told the committee that House Bill 8 50 would apply the 60‑day notice of cancellation to the standard fire policy to align that policy with legislation passed last year. He offered technical amendments and explained the effective date change.
"Last year, we had a bill to move the notice of cancellation from 30 days to 60 days, but we didn't apply it to the standard fire policy. So this is now applying it to the standard fire policy to move the notification of cancellation from 30 days on that to 60 days to align with the bill we passed last year," Senator Bass said.
Deputy Commissioner Adam Patrick confirmed that the amendment aligns statutory provisions with the effective date of prior legislation. The amendment moved the effective date from July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2027 (amendment set 1783); the committee adopted the amendment without opposition.
Senator Edmonds moved that the committee report House Bill 8 50 with amendments. With no opposition, the bill was reported with amendments to the Senate floor.
