Committee reauthorizes Department of Insurance; commissioner briefs members

The Senate Insurance Committee heard from Commissioner Tim Temple on House Bill 2 34, which reauthorizes the creation of the Department of Insurance and removes a sunset provision.
"This bill is exactly as the cochair said. Just reauthorizes the creation, of the Department of Insurance," Commissioner Tim Temple said, and invited questions from committee members.
Senator Fall thanked the commissioner for his work and noted the commissioner’s engagement with the committee on issues ranging from property insurance to pharmacy benefit managers and prescription‑drug matters. Several members echoed appreciation for the commissioner's outreach to constituents and stakeholders across the state.
Chair noted that Sandy Mapes of the Farm Bureau submitted a card in favor but did not wish to speak. Senator Edmonds moved to report House Bill 2 34 favorably; with no opposition the committee reported the bill favorable.
The bill will proceed to the Senate floor under the committee report.
