Council approves truck buyout, insurance renewal and several small-community purchases

Bryce Canyon City Council on April 2 approved several budget and capital items, including a Dodge truck lease buyout and routine community sponsorships and purchases.
The council recorded the truck buyout amount as $56,371.66 and approved a motion not to exceed $60,000 to complete the purchase. That motion was made by Mike Stevens and seconded by Kam Roundy. The minutes list Cherrie Tebbs and Bryce Syrett as recorded yes votes; Gary Syrett was absent.
Council approved a full-page $500 ad for the Garfield County Livestock Show and a $100 banner renewal for Bryce Canyon Mule Days. The council also authorized up to $1,000 to replace four broken main-street flowerpots with beer-barrel–style pots (roughly $99 each) and to purchase silk flowers intended to last two to three years; staff said the pots can be sourced from Ace in Panguitch.
On benefits, the council approved renewing the same PEHP insurance coverage despite a 7.7% premium increase. The motion to renew was made by Mike Stevens, seconded by Kam Roundy; the minutes record that Bryce Syrett and Cherrie Tebbs voted yes and Gary Syrett was absent.
Other small items included a $1,500 America 250 contribution already received from Travel Council and a staff request for an additional $1,100 (the request was noted but no vote on the additional funds was recorded). The Utah Symphony asked how the city would like to be recognized for a RAP tax sponsorship; staff (Deanna Moore) will coordinate recognition details.
The council approved warrants and adjourned. Several items were left for follow-up at the next meeting, including bid follow-up and scholarship agenda items.
