Bryce Canyon City Council voted April 2 to enter an interlocal agreement with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office to secure coverage by Deputy Twitchell-Smith at an annual cost of $97,000. The agreement allows the county to charge additional fees if the city needs coverage beyond the contracted arrangement and may be terminated on 90 days’ notice.
The motion to approve the agreement was made by Mike Stevens and seconded by Kam Roundy; the minutes record recorded yes votes from Bryce Syrett and Cherrie Tebbs and note Gary Syrett was absent. Mayor Shiloh Syrett said Sheriff Houston follows up regularly with the mayor and asked that council members report any issues to the sheriff.
Council members framed the vote as securing regular law-enforcement presence for the town; no amendment or alternate funding source was recorded during the meeting. The mayor and staff will continue to coordinate with Garfield County on implementation and billing under the contract.
