Anthony Whittington told the board the Parks and Recreation Department issued bids for mowing and landscape services and received six responses. Staff recommended entering a one-year term contract with CNC Lawn Care Service LLC as the lowest responsible bidder and Tusk New Lawn and Landscape LLC as the secondary vendor. Whittington listed 11 non-park properties to be covered (including Greenwood School, City Hall, Majestic Hotel property, Community Resource Center, Pleasant Street medians and the Transportation Depot) and said the contract amount is $19,600 and is covered in the department’s landscape services budget.
Directors asked whether the responsive bidders and bid materials were included in the meeting packet (Whittington said they were), whether the city had worked with these vendors before (they have not), and whether right-of-way mowing is separate (the street department handles right-of-way). Whittington said the parks department has four full-time staff who do mowing and that handing the listed properties to the contractor will free those staff to focus on parks.
