The Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission on April 15 recommended approval of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for fiscal years 2027–2030, which covers Lancaster County and lists projects that must conform to the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan.
Rachel Christopher, representing the Planning and Development Services Department and the Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization, summarized the TIP’s purpose and process: TIP projects that use federal or state funds must appear in the TIP to allow funding obligation and to be fiscally constrained. The TIP also includes regionally significant locally funded projects. Rachel said the MPO funding committee and MPO technical committee reviewed the draft and recommended it; the MPO officials committee will consider it on May 19 before the state submits it to the Nebraska Department of Transportation and federal agencies for final approval.
Christopher highlighted continuing major projects and several new NDOT project listings, and noted that the TIP includes project maps and interactive web content. She also described a corrected funding source for a North 14th Street project in Lancaster County and a corrected project number for a city project at 48th/56th and Calvert.
Commissioners had no substantive objections and thanked staff for outreach and briefings. The commission voted 7–0 to recommend the TIP; the item will proceed to the MPO officials committee, then to the state, FHWA and FTA for final approval prior to the federal fiscal year start on Oct. 1.
