Board accepts low bids and donation to build North High indoor facility

For North High, the board accepted a low bid of $184,399.27 from Nelson Contractors (South Sioux City, Neb.) to construct indoor batting cages and an indoor golf space. Trustees noted West High already has a similar facility and East High is under construction; approving the North High project completes access across high schools. The motion passed by voice vote.
The board also accepted a $73,399.27 donation from the STARS Booster Club toward the North High facility. Superintendent Dr. Rod Earlywine said the project includes substantial in‑kind donations of labor and materials worth "tens of thousands of dollars," and that district funding will include two years of the physical plant and equipment levy (PEPL) allocation (two years of $25,000 each) applied to the project.
Separately, the board accepted the low bid of $59,273 from Barkhan, Inc. (South Sioux City, Neb.) to install a stormwater detention pond at East High School as required by city code. Board members confirmed the pond location adjacent to Highway 20 and practice fields. That motion also passed by voice vote.
District officials said the total low bid for North High includes in‑kind contributions that will be credited against project costs. The board unanimously approved the construction bids and the donation acceptance; staff will proceed with contract execution and project scheduling.
