Sioux City school board president announces resignation, cites upcoming surgery

A fellow director called the announcement "very difficult news to hear" and said the board would meet with the vice president, interim superintendent and board secretary to create a plan to fill the seat within the 30-day window the board must meet.
The board did not take any immediate action to appoint a successor at the March 9 meeting; members said they would call a special meeting to set a timetable and next steps. The district said in discussion that legal counsel and the board secretary would coordinate the vacancy process.
