The board authorized up to $80,000 to purchase individual professional development courses and licensure renewal credits through ISCEA for the 2024 school year. Separately, the board approved a contract with Solution Tree for $36,540 to host two workshops during 2024–25 and reserve 30 of roughly 100 participant slots in each session for district staff.
A Solution Tree representative and district leaders framed the workshops as a cost‑effective way to bring nationally known presenters to Sioux City, allowing staff to attend without travel. "This is a way for us to be able to bring in nationally known presenters to Sioux City…we are a destination district for bringing in high level presenters to our community," a presenter said. Superintendent Dr. Rod Earlywine added that hosting such events also benefits local motels and restaurants.
Both motions passed by voice vote. The district will host the workshops and allocate reserved slots to staff; further details about scheduling and participant selection will follow through district professional development offices.
