Senator Walakowski wins amendment ordering DOT to repair Muldoon Wall, report due Dec. 1, 2026

Senator Walakowski introduced amendment number 1 during the DOT Finance Subcommittee meeting on April 15, 2026, directing the Department of Transportation to repair and maintain the Muldoon Wall on Muldoon Road and to submit a status report to the co‑chairs of the House and Senate Transportation Committees by Dec. 1, 2026.

Explaining the amendment, Walakowski said the Muldoon Wall was constructed as part of the 2012 Muldoon Improvement Project and "has been left to deteriorate for over a decade." She said constituents and frequent travelers had repeatedly complained about hazardous conditions and that prior meetings with the DOT commissioner, follow‑up letters in July and October and a departmental response outlining options had not produced the repairs her constituents expected. "We showed him the problems that existed...He said he would take some action. Nothing happened," she said, describing multiple unfulfilled promises and correspondence.

The amendment does not add money; Walakowski described it as a wordage amendment that "directs the department to repair and maintain the Muldoon Wall" and to provide the specified report. Chair Steadman asked for objection to adoption; with none raised, the subcommittee adopted amendment number 1 by unanimous consent. The adopted amendment became part of the package the subcommittee forwarded to the full Senate Finance Committee.

The amendment sets a reporting deadline of Dec. 1, 2026. The Department of Transportation is the implementation assignee responsible for repairs and for submitting the status report to the legislative committee co‑chairs; no additional funding was specified in the amendment.
