Superintendent spotlights new CTE staff; board honors departing members

At its Nov. 14 meeting the Nassau County School Board heard a superintendent spotlight introducing two new hardware technicians and recognized departing board members.
Superintendent Dr. Burns introduced two staff members who recently joined the district's career-technical-education (CTE) program: Trey, who recruited his friend to join the district, and Majene, who said she came to Nassau County from Duval County and is starting her career in the district. Trey told the board that on a recent CTE test session at West Nassau, "every student, except for one, passed" the Photoshop exam; he said he feels that working for the district gives him an opportunity to "give back to the community." Majene said she appreciates the support of supervisors and colleagues and that small tasks at the front desk contribute to larger CTE outcomes.
The chair also recognized that the meeting was the final board appearance for Curtis Gauss and Dr. Grooms (who had gone home sick); Gauss spoke about his long association with Nassau County Schools, praising teachers, staff, bus drivers and principals and saying he had "certainly enjoyed my time" serving with the district.
The superintendent reminded members that the reorganization meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and thanked staff for their work on recent Veterans Day events and school STEM nights.
What happens next: The district will continue staffing the CTE program and will present the postponed millage oversight report at the Dec. 12 meeting, according to the superintendent.
