Committee approves July 4 downtown street closure for 'Red, White and Boom' concert

Engineer Dean presented an event and street-closure application for the July 4 "Red, White and Boom" concert and said staff recommend approval with the conditions included in the packet.
Dean said the organizer plans to close the 7th and Laurel intersection downtown, run music from about 7 to 10 p.m., and host food and beer vendors in coordination with the parade. An attachment to the packet described recommended conditions staff would require for approval.
Event organizer Ryan Ron Beatty, who identified himself as owner of Loomfest, told the committee he has run similar events (including a two-day LoonFest at the baseball field) and that the prior event ran smoothly. Beatty said lighting was an issue at the prior venue and that organizers are prepared for it this year. When asked what nonprofit benefits, Beatty said it is the "Vigil and Guardians." He added, "We're offering our free concert for the July 4," intending free admission to encourage downtown spending.
A committee member moved to approve the event application; the Chair seconded and members present voted 'aye,' carrying the motion. Staff noted the item will proceed to city council for the next step.
