City reports: 29 solar customers, tree trimming, Motorola project prep and seven trash RFPs received

City staff updated the council on several operational items. The electric utility filed its distributed energy report and the city has about 29 solar customers on the system. Quotes were returned for directional-drilling work to move overhead lines underground this spring and summer. Crews are conducting tree trimming and system-mapping updates to reduce storm damage during the summer.
Staff said auditors will be on site next Monday and Tuesday, and the police department has been receiving materials for its Motorola project with training planned for the spring. Public works reported that two recent water-main breaks have been patched and that lead service-line inspections are ongoing. The contractor installing a new door-lock system has pulled about 90% of the wiring.
Staff also said trash RFP responses are due this Friday and that seven proposals were received; the city will bring results back to council for consideration. The city’s Fire and Police departments participated in a Polar Plunge fundraiser that raised over $2,000 for Special Olympics.
A parks-and-recreation update noted a new commissioner, Bill Neely, and an ice-rink grant presentation; the Arts and Culture Commission will meet in Council Chambers tomorrow night.
