Limestone County approves truck purchases, FEMA transfer to cover equipment shortfall

Limestone County commissioners approved multiple vehicle purchases and budget adjustments during the meeting, including a dump truck and a haul truck for the Road & Bridge department, two pickups and a donation of a 2018 Tahoe to ESD 2.

Road & Bridge staff presented quotes for the dump and haul trucks; figures discussed in the meeting placed the combined cost near $398,536. Finance staff reported an equipment‑line balance of about $299,006.62 and identified an approximate shortfall (discussed in the hearing) of roughly $98,000. Commissioners discussed using FEMA reimbursement funds and moving line items to cover the gap; one speaker said FEMA reimbursements available were about $737,911.90.

A motion to proceed with the purchases, to move funds between vehicle/equipment line items and to apply FEMA reimbursement to cover the remaining shortfall was made, seconded and approved. The court directed staff to post a certification of revenue reflecting the transfer so the fiscal records show the FEMA revenue application.

Commissioners also approved buying two new pickups (quoted at about $109,045 total) to replace older fleet vehicles and agreed older trucks may be reassigned within county departments. Separately, the court approved donating a surplus 2018 Tahoe to Emergency Services District No. 2.

Commissioners asked staff to present a certification of revenue evidencing the FEMA transfer at the next meeting and to finalize the purchase orders and related journal entries.
