Local entrepreneur pitches life‑coaching services for people on probation

William Allen introduced himself during public comment at the April 17 executive meeting and described New Chapter Life Coaching, a for‑profit program he formed to provide life‑coaching to people on probation, parole and those in recovery.

Allen said he retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections, worked in probation and parole and internal affairs, and moved to the region to continue work supporting people involved in the criminal justice system. “I formed New Chapter Life Coaching, where I am the director of character development and coaching,” he said, explaining the program offers coaching, life‑skills training and scholarships supported by crowdfunding.

Allen told the council his biggest hurdle is that his business is not a 501(c)(3) and that funding is an issue. He said he is exploring ways to adjust pricing and is seeking local stakeholders willing to sponsor scholarships for clients.

A council member thanked Allen and asked whether he had contacted traditional local providers and reentry organizations (named in the meeting as Gabe Brown Ministries and Ready for Work) and substance‑use and mental‑health providers who accept returning citizens. Allen said he has sent outreach emails, contacted local service groups and is in early talks with a private company that has not yet committed.

The council did not take action on the request during the executive session. Council members encouraged partnership outreach and suggested adding the topic to future agenda planning if concrete sponsorship or collaboration opportunities develop.
