The North Andover School Committee accepted a donation of an adaptive Amtrak bike from a local family for the district’s ABCC program.
Staff said the piece of adaptive equipment has straps and safety features to support students who lack the upper‑body control to ride traditional bicycles and that physical therapists recommended the ABCC (adaptive) program as the best fit. "It's adaptive equipment... there are straps, there are safety features," a district representative said during the meeting, noting the device is costly and hard to purchase.
A committee motion to accept the donation passed unanimously. Officials thanked the family and the staff who processed the paperwork and coordinated the transfer.
